Originally released in 1984, the Dragon Ball Manga series ran all the way through to 1995. The story follows a young boy by the name of Goku (or Son Goku), who is loosely based on the traditional Chinese folk tale Journey to the West. From there on out the manga series has never looked back as it grew in popularity worldwide. There are 42 Volumes of Dragon Ball, the first 16 was adapted for the Dragon Ball series and the remaining 26 for the Dragon Ball Z series.

If you have never read or even heard of Dragon Ball then you are in for a treat. You are about to be exposed to a worldwide mega franchise that is still going strong today. Of course the existing fans will be familiar with the story line and the characters of the Dragon Ball manga. However, reading the manga is possibly the best way to relive the story of a young Goku. Meanwhile, you get to find out how he became the hero we all know and love today. A huge bonus for the manga series is that fillers are readable within minutes or just skipped altogether. In fact it was something that fans of the anime wished they were able to do all those years ago.
